Gift Giving Idea #16 for the Writer
Sometimes the sound of typewriter keys is exactly what an aspiring writer needs to hear. And just think, no need to depend on power. Light a candle or a kerosene lamp and get to work! Of course, we doubt you’ll need to do that. But, just in case, the author can keep on putting those words to paper!
This ROYAL manual typewriter is from 1963. Ribbons are still available online. Just check with George, he’ll tell you where to get them.
We found this wonderful website that shared the following:
Royal was one of the longest-lived typewriter manufacturers. They introduced their first typewriter, the Royal #1, in 1906 and did not stop manufacturing tyepwriters until the 1970s. The company still exists, albeit having undergone many incarnations as part of various parent companies. Today, Royal is owned by Olivetti and still sells typewriters, though none with the famous Royal brand.
Even more interesting, in 1972 they actually manufactured a typewriter with a square, fake wood grain, clamshell lid with a transistor radio built in!!! WOW! The things you learn! Stop in and visit, we’ve had lots more very, very, very unique items.
